The First Step...

Dear Folks,
Why do we, the Indians look west most of the time?  The direction has no religious connotations to start with.  The issue is purely social.  Gone are the days when the Trade Winds brought the foreigners to our shores for business and learning...today be it studies or business we turn to the west.  I am not denying the strides that we have made in various other fields....
While we boast of the quality of output from our IITs and IIMs, are we bothered about the placement for those qualified graduates?  Retention of talent within the country is nearly impossible...there has been an exodus. Nothing against those who migrate abroad; it is a free world with citizens having free will. At the same time nothing is free in this world as we all know.
If I take the grounds of good professional exposure, challenging assignments, quality of life  as few of the reasons to go abroad then my question is "Can't we create them here?".  No..no, I am not from Utopia...I am pragmatic and of course being ready for the rigours of the transformation.
I am not the neo-socialist or narrow minded nationalist.  Neither I advocate recalling all my brothers and sisters from abroad.  You be there physically but let your love and loyalty be with your motherland; by being in India I can't claim to be an Indian because being a citizen expects more than being merely a native.
My request to all my contemporaries, living abroad or in India is to contribute towards building a stronger India.  I am not starting a movement or canvassing for a political party.  I am just expressing my wish to tread the path of progress towards our lost glory.
With this prelude, I invite your suggestions and concrete action plan for the change.  I shall also add a few humble thoughts of mine for your validation and discussion. I believe that winning the race is just an incidental while the first step one takes in the right direction is the most important hence, let us step out and march together....
                   Jai Hind!
